New Models of Game Design

The Games-to-Teach Project hopes to offer students a chance to explore the worlds of math, science, and engineering through new and exciting game models. A major challenge will be how to create a next-generation games that allow students to engage in critical problem solving, creative expression, and rich social relationships -- that appeal to a broad audience of gamers.

Historically, games have tended to attract more men than women. Recent games like The Sims have attracted broader audiences with richer story-telling capacity, more diverse characters, and more open opportunities for creative play.

New developments in console and desktop computer technologies, including the ability to design simulated worlds and infuse collaboration tools in game designs are opening up whole new avenues for designing educational games.
