An Emerging Medium & Maturing Industry

Games have come a long way since the days of Pac Man. The processing power of today's computers and consoles allows for real-time 3-D rendering and stereo-quality audio effects and soundtracks. Thus, game designers have begun to explore new potentials for interactivity.

In games such as Black and White, worlds evolve in real-time in relation to players' activities and choices. Other games, such as Jet Grind Radio, incorporate rhythm, role-play, social commentary, or unique aesthetics.

As games develop, they draw from more traditional fields of study and application, such as theater, dance, psychology, and architecture and are becoming a realized, multi-faceted art form.
